Software Engineer Associate (Full Stack)

We build websites and applications that people rely on to do their work. As a Software Engineer Associate (Full Stack) at GrassFed, you’ll take features and fixes from a clear set of requirements through implementation, testing, code review, and release.

You’ll work across React frontends, Node.js APIs, PostgreSQL databases, and AWS applications. Working alongside our designers and engineers, you’ll propose solutions, make thoughtful implementation decisions, and build software that is reliable and easy to maintain.

• Independently deliver defined features and bug fixes across React interfaces, Node.js APIs, and relational databases, carrying them through testing, code review, and release.
• Break features into tasks, estimate the effort, communicate progress, and raise blockers or unclear requirements early.
• Propose technical solutions and make implementation decisions that fit the application’s architecture and established patterns.
• Integrate external services with appropriate validation, error handling, webhooks, retries, and handling of duplicate events and partial failures.
• Deploy through established processes and investigate and resolve issues across the interface, API, database, and AWS environment.
• Write automated tests, participate in code reviews, document useful findings, and share knowledge with teammates.
• Use coding agents to implement, debug, refactor, and test changes. Review their output and verify functionality, security, and data correctness before shipping.

• Base salary of $70,000 to $85,000 per year, with final compensation based on relevant experience and demonstrated ability.

What you’ll bring

• At least three years of professional full stack development experience.
• Strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills, with practical experience building React frontends and Node.js backends.
• Practical SQL and PostgreSQL experience.
• Experience independently developing APIs and troubleshooting applications across multiple client projects.
• The ability to turn designs into responsive, accessible interfaces using HTML, CSS, and maintainable React components, including forms, validation, state management, and data fetching.
• Experience designing REST APIs with request validation, consistent errors, pagination, and clear contracts between frontend and backend.
• Practical database knowledge covering schema design, migrations, transactions, indexes, and query performance.
• Experience implementing authentication, enforcing authorization on the server, and protecting application data.
• Hands-on experience with AWS integrations and application deployment, including compute, storage, IAM permissions, environment configuration, and logs.
• Experience with automated tests, code reviews, and CI/CD.
• Sound technical judgment and the ability to explain decisions, communicate risks, and follow through on the details.

Working with AI

We expect hands-on experience using coding agents to implement, debug, refactor, and test changes across a codebase.

You should be able to break work into manageable tasks, provide relevant instructions and context, guide execution, and change direction when an approach fails. You remain responsible for the result, including functionality, security, and data correctness.

That also means understanding tool permissions and handling private code, credentials, and client data responsibly.

• Express, Prisma, OpenAPI, and generated API clients.
