What we did

• •We designed the resident and staff workflows in Figma, keeping common tasks clear and leaving room for future events. The React Native app combined event listings, search, filters, schedules, prices, maps, and useful links in one mobile experience for iOS and Android.
• •We built map-based discovery so attendees could see event locations and points of interest such as vendors, exits, and restrooms. Navigation and ticket links helped people move from planning to participation, while platform-aware map choices and fewer paid map requests helped keep operating costs more predictable.
• •We created a web-based admin portal that lets city staff add and update events and related content without relying on developers for routine changes. The workflow also supports review of community-submitted events, giving the city a way to broaden participation while retaining control over what appears in the app.
• •To meet the fixed festival deadline, we divided the product into modular pieces, prioritized launch-critical features, and moved lower-priority scope to later phases. We built the backend on AWS with PostgreSQL and Prisma, using typed models and infrastructure as code to absorb changing requirements without large rewrites.
• •We connected the platform to Eventbrite for event discovery, Firebase for push notifications, and WRSTBND using its recommended integration approach. The resulting system gave Gretna a reusable channel for annual festivals and smaller community events rather than a one-time guide tied to a single date.
